Case: Future/Memory Production, print and distribution
With a long experience of producing, printing and distributing art- and photobooks the following scenario is not uncommon.
“Hellerau – European center for the arts” in Dresden contacted Dokument Press in the spring of 2013. Hellerau was working with the production of the exhibition Future/Memory that was going to take place during summer.
After the closing of Future/Memory Hellerau wanted to publish a book with interviews with the nine featured artists, photos from the work process, their works and photos from the exhibition spaces.
Participating artist SuperBlast made the graphic design, he was practically given free hands in his choice of format, layout, paper quality and photo repro.
The reslut became a big, stylish art book with hardcover. SuperBlast chose a matt paper and the photos have a bleak and dusky tone which gives the book Future/Memory more of a feel of an artist book rather than the usual museum catalogue.
Dokument Press was both councelin some parts of the final editing, the end-production and responsible for the printing contacts.
Once the book arrived Dokument’s warehouse in Stockholm the distribution begins. Following the contract with Hellerau Future/Memory will be distributed both in Europe, The US and Australia. Hellerau have a small part of the printing for their own contacts, while Dokument is managing the distribution at a whole.
