Kalle Assbring, 1975-2017
Kalle Assbring, självporträtt
Our beloved author, co-worker and friend, Kalle Assbring is gone after several years of struggle against a severe illness.
Dokument Press published Outernational, Kalle’s first book, in 2007. Ten years later he received the Swedish Photo Book Prize for Fadern, sonen och Göran. The book tells about Kalle’s father, documentary photographer Göran Assbring, who was shot to death while following the Eritrea guerrillas. His father’s death shaped Kalle’s life. After visiting Eritrea as an adult, Kalle discovered that a number of Eritrean children were baptized to Yuran after the fallen photographer. Kalle spent many years tracking these Yuran.
“The low-key tone of texts and images is completely consistent in Fadern, sonen och Göran, a book that will always be a part of the Swedish photo book story,” Lars Epstein wrote in Dagens Nyheter, Sweden’s biggest daily.
Kalle was easy to like. He generously shared both himself and his professional skills. His warm and bright person will be dearly missed
We will always remember you Kalle!
